Compartmentalize Your Life (and Your Privacy)

Hey everyone! :waving_hand:

This week is a special video for Pride month :rainbow_flag::transgender_flag:, we’re talking about compartmentalization and why it’s such an important privacy technique not only for the Queer community but for everyone to utilize.

I hope you enjoy the video, I’m looking forward to hearing what you think

Is there a reason why you did not actually and explicitly mention names of tools and services you can use for said compartmentalization? I only heard Mullvad and Tor Browser for names of actual tools. My guess is that you/PG doesn’t want to be on record for any recommendation on video if the tool/service goes south in the future? If not, then you could have mentioned tools/named names like SMSPool, SimpleLogin, AliasVault, GrapheneOS (where you can literally have different profiles for different purposes), etc. instead of simply saying what kind of tool to use (but not which ones).

But besides that, great video!

Thanks for your kind words Johnny!

We do try to avoid mentioning services if possible and focus more on techniques because the videos can’t be retroactively updated in the same way that the website can.

I do agree that I could have mentioned that we do have recommendations for some of those things on the website, perhaps towards the end of the video.

That’s what I figured. Yeah, reminding users that they can find a lot of valuable info on the website and the forum is always a good idea at the end of each video.

Pretty good video, I personally didn’t really like the screen shake/bobbing effect at 1:10 though (but that’s a pretty minor nitpick). Also, What editing software do you use to make your videos @jordan?

I’m trying out different things to keep the video engaging, thanks for letting me know. I wasn’t super happy with the effect so I think I’ll scrap that for future videos.

I use DaVinci Resolve Studio, but pretty much everything would work fine in the free version. I highly recommend it over Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro, it’s just a lot more fully featured and reliable.

Happy Pride month to those celebrating

Nice video.

I know it’s mentioned later, but I believe browser fingerprinting should appear earlier, alongside other uniquely identifiable information sources.
